Find the differences:


Can you use the pictures to tell a story?

Look at these pictures. These pictures tell you the story. It’s called ‘The untidy bedroom’. Just look at the pictures first. (Pause) Look at the first one.
Emma and Jill are in their bedroom with their mother. She isn't happy because the room is untidy. She is saying, 'It's half past six. You must tidy your room and then you can watch TV in bed.'

Hobbies: Are you good at speaking English?

 

Can you name some hobbies?

What are you good at?

Note: You can print the vocabulary for hobbies pages and make cards. Use the cards to play a memory game. 
Useful Structures:
Question: Are you good at ... ( hobbies)? For example: Are you good at doing ballet?
I am good at (hobbies).
I am great at (hobbies).
I am not so good at (hobbies).
I am terrible at (hobbies).

How to Play memory game:

  • Mix the cards then place them face down on the table.
  • Players take it in turn to turn over two cards of their choice in order to try and create a pair. 
  • Players show the cards to all the players.
  • If the two cards are identical, the player keeps them. 
  • If the two cards are not identical, he places them face down in the same place. 
  • It is then the turn of the next player to turn over two cards.
  • The game ends when there are no more cards on the table.
  • The player who has the most pairs wins.

Describing People: Sketch the thieves

Describing people: Features


We are going to learn how to describe people.
We use the verb 'to be' to describe:
  • height
I am tall.
  • body build:
She is slim.
  • age:
He is old.
Describe the people. You can use these adjectives: tall, short, young, old, slim, medium.

Facial features:

We use 'has got' and 'have got' to describe hair colour, hair length and facial features.
Facial Features are eyes, nose, eyebrows, ears, mouth, lips and chin. 
Vocabulary to describe people's features

He has got short brown hair.
He has got small green eyes.
He has got a big nose.

Describing People: Clothes

I'm happy to see you! Today, we are going to be describing your outfit.

We use the verb 'wear' to talk about the clothes that someone has on.

  • Present simple form 
 -wear-

Example: I wear a jacket when it is cold. 

  • Past simple form 
          -wore-

Example: Yesterday, she wore a red t-shirt. 

  • Present continuous form
          -be + wearing-

Example: He is wearing black trousers.

Free Time and Holidays

  • What do you do in your free time?
  • What hobbies do you have?
  • What are you doing this weekend?
  • What did you do last summer vacation?
  • What did you do last weekend?
  • What is your favourite holiday?
  • Tell me about your best memory from a holiday.
  • Are there any holidays that you really don’t like? 
  • Do you think your country should have more, or less, holidays? Why?
Describing pictures (holidays):
Activity 1: Instructions: A teacher is going to take a class of students on a school trip. Talk together about the different places the class could visit and decide which trip the class would enjoy most. Here are some ideas to help you:
  • go sailing / boats / lake  cinema / actors  
  • horses / riding school  
  • old castle  
  • art gallery / paintings
  • I think … would be a good idea because it is (more) interesting / boring because
  • Most people like visiting / going to … 
  • I recommend that they go to … 
  • I think that they should choose 

Activity 2: Instructions: Use the 3 pictures to create a story. You can use the vocabulary bank on the right to help you.


Activity 3: Instructions: Now, in this part you are going to talk together.. Here are some pictures that show different holidays. Do you like these different types of holiday? Say why or why not. Now, talk together with your partner. You can use these questions to help you:

  • Do you think staying at a campsite is fun?
  • Do you think lying on a beach is boring?
  • Do you think having a holiday in the mountains is difficult?
  • Do you think going on a school trip is exciting?
  • Which of these holidays do you like best?
